Customize navigation
Customize your Confluence site’s navigation to match your brand.
Make your Confluence site feel more familiar to your users by customizing the navigation. You can select a custom logo and color scheme for the navigation bar to match your company’s brand. Updating the navigation color palette will change the color of the create button and the background color of the main navigation bar.
To customize the navigation:
- Select the Confluence administration icon in the top navigation bar.
- Navigate to Settings in the sidebar. Then, select Look and feel.
- Select Customize navigation.
- Under Upload custom logo, select a file to upload.
- Under Select navigation colors, select the dropdown menus for Highlight color and Background color.
- Enter a color code or use the color picker to choose a new color.
- Select Save.
👇Change the logo and navigation colors in your Confluence site.

You can always revert to the default navigation scheme from the Customize navigation screen. First, delete your custom logo. Then, select the dropdown menus for Highlight color and Background color, and select Reset to default. Save your changes.
Set a theme for your site.
Themes are another way to customize the look and feel of a Confluence site or spaces. They allow you change the styling of your site or space by incorporate your brand’s icons, logos, and more. Themes also allow you to customize landing pages and emphasize parts of the user interface to help guide behavior. You can create your own theme module or download one from the Atlassian Marketplace.
To install a theme on a Confluence site:
- Select the Confluence administration icon in the top navigation bar.
- Navigate to Settings in the sidebar. Then, select Look and feel.
- Select Themes.
- Under Choose new theme, select Change theme.
Space admins can select a different theme for their space.
Add links to the application navigator.
Add custom links to the application navigator, making it easier for users to navigate to frequently used information. The application navigator appears in the top navigation bar, and it displays a menu of links to other apps. If you’ve configured any application links, they will automatically appear here. However, Confluence admins can add additional links and configure who can see the links.
👉 For example: Justine is a Confluence admin for a shoe manufacturer. She’s already configured application links to other Atlassian apps, which appear in the application navigator. However, she also wants to add a link to the company’s retail website. She edits the application navigator and adds a custom link to the website. Now, anyone on the site can easily navigate to the company website from the application navigator.
To add links to the application navigator:
- Select the Switch sites or apps icon in the top navigation bar.
- Select Manage list at the bottom of the menu.
- Enter the name of the link and the URL.
- Select the Hide checkbox if you want to hide the link from all users.
- Select a group from the Restricted to groups dropdown if you want only certain groups to view the link.
- Select Add.
👇 Add custom links to the application navigator.

Add a custom header and footer
Customize the look of all pages and live docs in Confluence by adding a custom header and footer. You can use wiki markup to add text, links, macros, and images. This change will be applied to the header and footer of every page across your Confluence site.
👉 For example: Priya is the Confluence admin for a customer-facing knowledge base. Her company requires a special disclaimer to be displayed at the top of each Confluence page, as well as support information at the bottom. Priya customizes the header and footer of her Confluence site to include this information, which will now appear on every Confluence page.
To customize the header and footer:
- Select the Confluence administration icon in the top navigation bar.
- Navigate to Settings in the sidebar. Then, select Look and feel.
- Select Header and footer.
- Use wiki markup in the Header and Footer text boxes to add text, links, macros, and images.
- Select Save.
👇Changes made to the header and footer at the global level will apply to every page and live doc on the Confluence site.

Space admins can also add a custom header and footer at the space level. These take priority over site settings.
