How can you measure a space’s usage?

Confluence Analytics provides insights into how your site, spaces, and pages are performing, as well as user activity. By leveraging this data, space admins can monitor engagement, track page views, and identify popular content, enabling informed decisions about content updates and overall space management.

Confluence analytics is only offered with Confluence Cloud Premium and Enterprise.
Full-page analytics for sites, spaces, and pages contain data going back one year.

There are a number of uses for analytics in Confluence:
  • Measure Confluence usage with reports.
  • Provide insights to improve spaces and pages.
  • Drive collaboration and completion.

Control who has access to analytics in your space.

As a space admin, you can control who can view analytics in your space. Set space permissions by allowing or denying users or groups access to analytics.
A user or group must have analytics permissions at the global Confluence level before they can be granted space-level permissions.
  • You should regularly review and update analytics permissions to ensure they align with current team roles and responsibilities.
  • Limit access to analytics data to only those who need it for decision-making and content management.
To control who can access analytics in a space:
  1. Navigate to the space in Confluence and select Space settings from the space pop-out menu.
  2. Expand Space access and select Analytics Permissions.
  3. Select Viewing analytics restricted from the drop-down menu.
  4. Type a name into the search box to find a person or group, then select the correct entry to grant them access. To revoke access, select Remove next to their name on the list.
  5. Select Save to save your changes.

How can you use Confluence analytics in your spaces?

Confluence Analytics is divided into three levels:
  • Site analytics provide an overview of the entire Confluence instance.
  • Space analytics focus on activity within a specific space.
  • Page analytics offer detailed insights into individual page performance.
You can directly access analytics at the site, space, and page levels to monitor activity and performance. The Mission Control dashboard, the central hub for monitoring site and space activity, offers insights from a higher level. From there, you can easily click into the more detailed site—or space-level Confluence analytics for a deeper dive, allowing for more granular analysis and troubleshooting.
👉 For example: The mission control dashboard shows that a space has a high number of inactive pages. From here you can click a button to go directly to the Confluence space analytics to take a closer look and troubleshoot why this may be.

Site analytics gives you insight into how your space performs compared to other spaces.

Site-level analytics in Confluence provide an overview of the entire Confluence instance. To access Confluence site analytics, select Analytics from Apps in the sidebar, or use the Mission control dashboard.

  • The Overview tab in Confluence Site Analytics provides a snapshot of the entire space's activity, including popular pages and overall engagement metrics.

Space-level analytics focus on the activity within a specific space, allowing space admins to monitor engagement and content performance. To access Confluence space analytics, navigate to Analytics under Space settings, or use the mission control dashboard.

From here admins can view detailed metrics on popular pages, user activity, and overall space engagement. This data helps in making informed decisions about content updates, archiving, and space management to ensure the space remains relevant and useful to its users.

Page analytics gives you insight into individual pages.

Page-level analytics provide detailed insights into the performance of individual pages within Confluence.
👇Every page header contains analytics information.
A page in Confluence. Below the header are some page analytics including who created it, when it was last updated, how long it should take to read, and how many people have viewed it.
On each page you will find important analytics:
  • Who created the page
  • When the page was last updated
  • The page’s estimated read time
  • How many people have viewed it
You can open page analytics for a page by selecting the number of people who have viewed it in the header. An analytics pop-up appears and you can find more analytics by selecting View more insights.
You can also navigate to a page’s analytics from the site or space analytics' page tab.
Here users can track metrics such as page views, edits, and user interactions. This data helps content creators understand how their pages are being used, identify popular content, and make necessary adjustments to improve engagement and usability.

What can you do with these analytics?

You can use these analytics to:
  • Identify Popular Content: By analyzing the most viewed and engaged pages, a space admin can identify which content resonates most with users and prioritize similar content creation or updates.
  • Monitor User Activity: Tracking the most active readers and contributors helps in recognizing key users who can be engaged for feedback or collaboration, fostering a more interactive and dynamic space.
  • Optimize Search Functionality: Reviewing search analytics allows the admin to understand what users are looking for and ensure that relevant content is easily accessible, improving overall user satisfaction.
  • Content Management: Using insights from page views and edits, the admin can decide which pages need updates, which can be archived, and which should be highlighted, ensuring the space remains current and useful.
  • Engagement Strategies: By understanding user behavior and content performance, a space admin can develop strategies to increase engagement, such as promoting underutilized pages or creating targeted content based on user interests.

Export your Confluence analytics as reports.

You can export Confluence Analytics data to a Excel file, allowing you to share insights with your team and perform further analysis.
You can export the following analytics from Confluence as Excel reports:
  • Spaces and users tabs on Site analytics
  • Pages and users tabs on Space analytics
To export one of these analytics pages as a report:
  1. Navigate to the Space or Page Analytics .
  2. Select the tab that you want to export and ensure the correct timeframe is selected.
  3. Select Export as CSV.
