Prioritize work with the List view in Jira
10 min
By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to:
- Group, filter, and sort work by different fields
- Complete bulk actions on work items
- Create formatting rules to highlight key work items
What is the List view?
The List view enables you to filter, group, and view your project’s work in a simple table format. Each row represents a work item, and each column represents a field.
👇This is the List view in a project. Each row is a work item, each column is a field.
In the List view, you can:
- Edit fields inline
- Select multiple work items to update at once
- Use formatting rules to visually differentiate work
- View data in charts
- Group work items together to easily compare them
👇Click the tabs below to explore three examples.
👉 For example: Matt’s coworker, Jan, is out sick for the rest of the week. Matt wants to reassign all work items currently assigned to Jan with a due date between today and Friday. He uses filters in the List view to find these work items, then bulk assigns them to himself.
👇This is Matt’s list.
Add the List view to your project
Many project templates have the List view by default. If you don’t see it in your business or software project, a project admin can add it to your project navigation.
To add the List view to your project:
- Navigate to your project.
- In project navigation, select Add to navigation (represented by a +).
- Under Views, select List, then click Add to navigation.
- If you want the List view to appear in a different place in your project navigation, drag and drop it to the desired place.
👇Add the List view to your project navigation.
Explore the List view
The List view is very flexible; there are many settings, filters, and groups you can configure, and many actions you can take on the work items in your list.

Take bulk actions in the List view
One of the most useful features of the List view is the ability to take actions on multiple work items at once, saving you time. Simply filter the list to the work items you want to act on and select all, or select individual rows. Then, you can edit fields, copy the data to your clipboard, or delete the work items, assuming you have permission.
