By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to:
- Explain the different metrics and insights available on mission control
- Monitor global activity across your Confluence site
- Use insights to take action to improve your Confluence site
What is mission control?
Monitor activity from mission control.
The first page you’ll land on in Confluence administration is mission control. Mission control is a centralized location for monitoring activity across your Confluence site. The insights gained from this page help admins stay aligned and informed so they can proactively respond to activity.
Space admins also have access to mission control within their own space. However, those insights are restricted to that space and do not include the entire Confluence site.
To access mission control:
- Select the Confluence administration icon in the top navigation bar.
- Select Mission control from the sidebar.
👇Mission control gives Confluence admins insight into their site’s activity.

With key notifications, metrics, and analytics-based insights, Confluence admins can:
- Establish a baseline of normal activity so it’s more obvious if something is wrong
- Know how much content they have, who owns it, who can access it, and if it's being updated
- Easily locate and access the administrative tools and controls that help them take action
Mission control is available with a Confluence Premium or Enterprise plan.
Mission control features
Alerts surface time-sensitive matters.
If something needs your immediate attention, it gets surfaced as an alert at the top of the page.
👉 For example: An alert will appear if guest users are waiting to be assigned to a space. After you complete the action, the alert will disappear.
See high-level metrics in the overview.
The overview section shows high-level metrics for your site. It shows an updated daily metric for content activity, content management, feature usage, and security. Confluence admins can quickly see unusual spikes in activity here.
You can customize this section to see the top three metrics relevant to you. For example, if security is a top issue for you, you can edit the overview to show active public links and public links viewed.
To edit the overview in mission control:
- Navigate to the overview section in mission control.
- Select Edit.
- Select the dropdown menus above each metric.
- Scroll through the options and select a new metric.
- Select Save.
👇Customize your Confluence site’s mission control overview to whatever’s most important to you.

Quickly take action with suggestions.
Not sure where to start? Mission control suggests actions for admins, such as reviewing content without owners or checking high-level permissions. You can either review and act on the suggested action or dismiss it.
👉 For example: Kenya, a Confluence admin, navigates to mission control in Confluence administration. She scrolls down the page and notices a suggestion to review content without an active owner. Kenya selects the Review button next to the suggestion and sees a list of spaces with the most content without active owners and the number of items needing review. She selects a space and is taken to that space’s content manager, where she can quickly review the items and assign new page owners.
👇Mission control suggests actions you can take to improve your site.

Summary cards show features and admins.
As you scroll down mission control, you’ll see summary cards with information about external access features, new features, and all the Confluence admins on your site. Summary cards surface when optional features are enabled, and you can quickly see which features are enabled or disabled. Each card has links to the administrative tool related to that card.
👉 For example: Tim is a Confluence admin on the Acme Confluence site. He wants to make sure all the latest features are enabled. From mission control, he scrolls to the New features summary card and notices that one of the new features isn’t enabled. He selects Manage new features on the summary card and is taken to the New features page. Here, he can scroll through the list of new features and enable them for use on his site.
👇Summary cards show you which features have been enabled and who administers your site.

View detailed activity across your site.
The last section of mission control is activity. These graphs contain visual information about spaces, content, feature usage, and security. Each activity card has links you can select to view more analytic details or jump to relevant content. You can use the menus to change the time frame and frequency for more detailed information.
👉 For example: Morgan is a Confluence admin for a site that’s used as a knowledge base. She wants to understand how users are searching for content on her site. From mission control, Morgan scrolls down to the Feature usage section under Activity. There, she can see how many searches have recently been performed, as well as the most searched terms.
👇See detailed graphs in the activity section of mission control.
