Visualize your team’s work with the Summary view in Jira

5 min

By the end of this lesson, you’ll be able to:

  • Track upcoming and in-progress work
  • Analyze your project’s work type, priority, and workload distribution

What is the Summary view?

The Summary view provides an overview of activities in your project. It pulls information from several reports and views into one dashboard, with visualizations of your workload balance, work item progress, recent activity, priorities, and more.
👇This is the Summary view in Jira.

Add the Summary view to your project

The Summary view appears in many project templates by default. If you don’t see it in your project, a project admin can add it to your project navigation.
To add the Summary view to your project:
  1. Navigate to your project.
  2. In project navigation, select Add to navigation (represented by a +).
  3. Under Views, select Summary, then click Add to navigation.
  4. If you want the view to appear in a different place in your project navigation, drag and drop it to the desired place.

Explore the Summary view

In the Summary view, you can:
  • Quickly see statistics on completed, updated, created, and due work items
  • Note recent activity on work items
  • Analyze the status, priority, work type, and assignee of the work items in your project
  • Visualize progress towards major epics
  • Follow links to filtered versions of the List view that provide further detail on work items.
👉 For example: Emma is a project manager. She uses the Summary view to quickly understand which epics aren’t progressing at the pace they need to, ensure that work is fairly distributed across the team, and see work items due soon.
